I Was Crawling Up the Stairs, Crying. Here's What I Learned."

I was crying. Crawling up the stairs on my hands and knees.

My sacrum was so far out of alignment that I couldn't stand up to walk.

I was in my 20s. Overweight. Out of shape. And my body was screaming at me—constantly.

This wasn't the first time my sacrum had gone out. It was just the worst.

I thought I was doing everything right. I was getting adjusted regularly—weekly, sometimes more. I worked for a chiropractor at the time, so adjustments an employment benefit.

But they never lasted.

A few days after an adjustment, my sacrum would slip out again. Then I'd need another adjustment. And another. And another.

I was managing the pain. But I wasn't healing.

The Problem Wasn't Where I Thought It Was

Around this time, I started taking Myofascial Release classes.

One of the things I learned was that physical therapists trained in MFR could do internal work—releasing restrictions inside the pelvis that you can't reach from the outside.

That's when it clicked.

My sacrum kept going out because something deeper—inside my pelvis—was pulling it out of alignment. The adjustments were treating the symptom, not the cause.

So I found a female pelvic floor specialist who was trained in Myofascial Release.

She located restrictions internally along the anterior sacral attachments—deep in my pelvis where I couldn't reach them myself.

I could feel a difference after the first session. But I knew this wasn't a one-and-done situation. The trauma had been there for 20 years. It was going to take multiple sessions and a lot of emotional letting go work to truly heal.

And that's exactly what happened.

Session by session, the restrictions released. My sacrum started holding its adjustments. The chronic pain began to fade.

My body finally had space to heal.

The Missing Piece: Movement

After I moved back home to Michigan, I discovered Pilates.

Core-strengthening, body-awareness that teaches you how to move from your center.

The internal MFR work had released the restrictions.

Pilates gave me the strength to hold my alignment.

The combination changed my life.

I got stronger. My sacrum stayed in place.

These days? About four chiropractic visits a year.

I saw a CranioSacral therapist in October. That's it.

Compare that to weekly (or more) adjustments in my 20s.

My body isn't perfect. But it's no longer screaming at me.

Why I'm Telling You This

Because if you're reading this and your body has been screaming at you—if you've been managing pain instead of healing it—I want you to know there's another way.

Chronic pain isn't normal.

Getting adjusted every week for years isn't normal.

Living in a body that constantly feels out of alignment isn't normal.

Your body is trying to tell you something.

And sometimes the answer isn't where you think it is.

For me, it wasn't just my sacrum. It was the restrictions deep in my pelvis that were pulling everything out of place. It was the lack of core strength. It was being overweight and out of shape, putting extra pressure on my joints and tendons.

Self-care isn't one thing. It's the accumulation of all the things.

What This Means for You

If you've been struggling with chronic pain, misalignment, or a body that won't hold adjustments—consider looking deeper.

Is there fascial restriction that hasn't been addressed?

Is there a movement practice (like Pilates, yoga, or strength training) that could give your body the support it needs?

Is there environmental or emotional stress?

Your body doesn't just "go out" for no reason. There's always a cause.

And sometimes, the cause is deeper than you think.

If you're looking for a pelvic floor specialist trained in MFR, start by asking local MFR practitioners for referrals in your area.

This Is Why I'm So Committed to Self-Care

Because I know what it's like to crawl up the stairs, crying, unable to stand.

I know what it's like to feel trapped in a body that doesn't work the way you want it to.

I know what it's like to manage pain instead of heal it.

And I know what it's like on the other side—when your body finally starts working with you.

That's why I teach what I teach. That's why I created Selfish Saturday. That's why I write these blogs every week.

Because your body is worth listening to.

And the pain you've been ignoring? It's trying to tell you something.
