Winter Solstice Reflections: Just Be
Winter Solstice Reflections: Just Be
You don’t have to fill every moment to be productive—sometimes the most important thing you can do is slow down.
I try not to do too much on Sundays so I can start my week feeling fresh. Yesterday was especially lazy on purpose because it was the winter solstice.
I relaxed all day.
I did have my stylist come to the house to give a haircut to me and my husband. She’s a friend of the family, and Sundays are usually about spending time together and keeping things simple.
Most Sundays are for thinking about the week ahead, being with my husband, my dog, and my cat, and giving myself permission to just lounge.
Yesterday evening, I also signed up for a winter solstice celebration at On The Path Yoga. I went last year and loved it so much that I was excited to attend again this year. I learned that some people celebrate the solstice by doing 108 sun salutations to bring in the new year, so I was grateful that this class, held at 7:00 pm, was a kinder, gentler version.
It was such a lovely way to take time for me—to take care of my body, move my body, celebrate Mother Earth, and honor the changing of her seasons.
Winter is the perfect time to reflect and be still. Everything slows down. Nature feels frozen and quiet, and that feels like a clue for us too—to listen and stop rushing around.
Several years ago, I heard, “We’re human beings, not human doings,” something clicked for me. Then another thought popped into my head: my middle name is Bea. Not Do.
So it’s a gentle reminder to myself—just be Wendy Bea.
And if you want, you’re welcome to borrow my middle name too.
Wishing you a season of peace, being easy and gentle with yourself, and taking time just to be.
You are Magnificent!
